Description
The initial version of the Oppositional Defiant and Dissocial Behaviour Scales for adolescents in Latvia, developed in alignment with ICD-11 diagnostic criteria for oppositional defiant disorder (6C90) and conduct-dissocial disorder (6C91). The study addressed the lack of culturally adapted and psychometrically validated assessment tools for adolescent externalizing behaviour in Latvia. The scale development process included item generation based on ICD-11 criteria, expert evaluation of content validity, face validity assessment with adolescents aged 13–19 years, and exploratory factor analysis using principal axis factoring with Promax rotation. The analyses supported a multidimensional structure comprising six scales, including antisociality, aggressivity, defiant behaviour, disobedience, and frustration intolerance. The scales demonstrated satisfactory to excellent internal consistency.
The findings highlight the potential of the instrument for early identification and assessment of oppositional defiant and dissocial behaviour in adolescents. The presented scales constitute an initial step toward a broader, ICD-11–based assessment framework for adolescent mental health in Latvia.
