Description
A look back on the closing event of choreographer's and scenographer's Līga Ūbele MagiC Carpets residency at Riga Youth Centre "Kaņieris" that was made together with seniors from the Day centre "Ķengarags" and local youth.Līga Ūbele for several months participated in a residency organized by the international platform "MagiC Carpets" in Ķengarags, where she lead contemporary dance classes for the seniors of the Day centre "Ķengarags", as well as held other activities and events. The main question of the residency research was the cultural deficit in Ķengarags. Thinking about the sustainability of the residence, Līga also wanted to involve young people in the event, creating a meeting place for these two generations with the aim of promoting dialogue, understanding and to look for possible ways of cooperation in the future.
“Magic Carpets” platform is an international project to promote the mobility and visibility of young European artists from different disciplines, giving artists the opportunity to take part in creative residencies where they work with local communities and artists to create socially inclusive and responsible works of art.
“Magic Carpets” platform and artists’ residencies are co-funded by the EU’s Creative Europe programme.
