Description

The aim of the Nordic Stroke Society is to promote research on cerebrovascular disorders in the Nordic and Baltic countries with special emphasis on scientific collaboration and exchange across national borders and between professional disciplines.

The Society was founded in 1982 under the name Scandinavian Society for Cerebrovascular Diseases. In 2005 the name was changed to Nordic Stroke Society, and colleagues from the Baltic countries were formally welcomed to the organisation. It is now the oldest of the regional stroke organisations in Europe.

The main activity of the Society has been to arrange scientific conferences biennially, rotating between the Nordic countries. These meetings are focused on advanced stroke education and on presenting and discussing new research findings. It provides an excellent opportunity for young investigators to make presentations in an international setting.
