Visit to Südzucker (Germany; June 2024)
Upon the invitation of Oliver Luhn (Head of Pharmaceutical Technology), Baiba Maurina and Valentyn Mohylyuk were pleased to visit the Centre of Research Development & Services (CRDS) at Suedzucker AG (Offstein, Frankfurt Rhine-Main Metropolitan Area, Germany).
Under common co-supervision and support from the Hochschule Mannheim ( University of Applied Sciences/Steinbeis Transfer Center) , Marta Pekša (MS student in Industrial Pharmacy, RSU) has an internship in CRDS at Suedzucker.
During the visit, Baiba Maurina and Valentyn Mohylyuk presented the Faculty of Pharmacy and Research Group, participated in professional discussions with Jörg Bernard, Oliver Luhn, and Maj-Britt Cepok, discussed and adjusted the direction of Marta Pekša’s scientific work, been introduced to Wolfgang Kraus, Matthias Rädle, and Natalia Isinger.
The visitors have been introduced to the R&D facilities and the production site of Beneo for the manufacture of galenIQ™ (Isomalt). Suedzucker's Central Department of Research, Development and Services (CRDS) has developed structure and many scientific directions in food and non-food areas. It supports the company in nutraceutical, food, chemical and other directions, including the developing and manufacturing pharmaceutical excipients (using complex technological processes), plant-sourced ingredients for meat replacement, chewing gums, bioethanol, etc. The scale of industrial manufacturing, degree of automatization, level of technology, and technological discipline are impressive.
As a result of the visit, RSU and Suedzucker are going to reinforce the collaboration in the field of pharmaceutical technology.
