Title: Investigation of Running Technique Stability in Long-Distance Runners
Description: We will assess stability using the Goal-Equivalent Manifold (GEM) framework, which distinguishes variability that preserves the task goal from variability that disrupts it. From stride-to-stride kinematic time series (e.g., stride time, length, vertical oscillation) collected with IMUs, we compute each runner’s manifold of goal-equivalent solutions (e.g., constant speed/pace) and decompose variability along the GEM (tolerated, task-equivalent) versus orthogonal to the GEM (error-relevant). Primary outcomes are GEM variance and Orthogonal variance (OV) across segments/splits and conditions (e.g., fatigue), with lower OV indicating greater stability.
