Description
This speech examines the shifts in modern photographic cultures, with a particular focus on the challenges brought about by the circulation of photographic images facilitated by artificial intelligence and generative algorithms. Synthetic images have swiftly become a naturalised aspect of photographic cultures across mass media, artistic practices, commercial photography, and popular culture. However, the widespread utilisation of synthetic images in visual culture, both openly and covertly, engenders numerous unforeseen and ethically complex situations that fundamentally transform the essence of photographic culture. This speech aims to critically explore the coexistence and hybridity of the photographic medium and synthetic images within visual culture, as well as potential future challenges.
