Teaching Students' Digital Literacy In School Education: Evaluation Criteria

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

This research provides a systematic review of the implementation of digital literacy in school education for 13-year-old students, emphasising the evaluation criteria applied to measure learning outcomes. In Latvia, this age group corresponds to the final stage of ISCED level 2. The review analyses how digital literacy is conceptualised and represented in research publications, in relation to evaluation criteria for assessing student performance. The EBSCOhost, ERIH Plus, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were used to select a total of 54 peer-reviewed publications for further analysis. The findings identify five categories of evaluation criteria, alongside an explanation of the persistent ambiguity surrounding the concept. The evaluation criteria encompass reading and writing using digital technologies, communication and social interaction, access to digital equipment and proficiency in its use, ethics, and critical thinking. By examining these criteria, the study aims to support more coherent, transparent, and pedagogically grounded assessment practices in school education.
