RSU Stomatology Institute research using DMFT index reveals Latvia's average caries severity at 2.5 teeth—more than double the European average (1.1). Deep cavities affect 71.9% of children (almost 3 in 4), with caries signs in 98.5% (nearly all). Lead researcher Sergio E. Uribe highlights that caries is largely preventable through sugar control, proper hygiene habits, fluoride toothpaste, and regular dental visits—offering significant potential to reduce disease burden, improve lifelong health, and benefit Latvia's healthcare system and economy.
