'Nothing is going on here'. Cultural life in neighbourhoods as evaluated by anthropologists
In a study on cultural life in Riga published in early January, one of the main findings was that, according to residents, it has deteriorated over the past four years. It also found that Russian speakers were the least satisfied. This is explained both by the pandemic and by the closing of the borders caused by the war, but is that all? To look at the problem from different perspectives, two researchers - Anete Ušča, a social anthropologist and doctoral researcher at the European University Institute, and Inguna Potetinova, who has just finished her research at the Riga Stradiņš University. Both of them study the neighbourhoods of Riga and what is and is not happening there.
