Analysis of the Botanical Composition and Health Claims of Food Supplements for Gastrointestinal Disorders

Dataset

Description

This dataset summarizes medicinal plants used in food supplements for gastrointestinal disorders related to excess stomach acid. It combines a literature review of European plants with gastroprotective or acid-modulating effects and a market analysis of products registered in the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) Food Supplements Register up to December 2024.
Dataset includes product details (name, plant ingredients, dosage forms, label health claims) and plant-level information (frequency of use, botanical families). Data were collected through targeted register searches, screened for relevance, and standardized for plant names, dosage forms, and claim wording.
The dataset supports the evaluation of plant-based health claims and regulatory oversight of digestive health supplements.
