      Description

The Sport Imagery Ability Questionnaire is a tool designed to assess five types of imagery ability, reflecting the five main functions that athletes use in their sport-related mental imagery. It also evaluates a broad range of imagery content applied by athletes in both training and competition contexts and has been adapted for the Latvian sports environment. The questionnaire includes five subscales:

      1.Training-oriented imagery ability
      2.Competition-oriented imagery ability
      3.Goal-oriented imagery ability
      4.Affect-oriented imagery ability
      5.Competence-oriented imagery ability

By summing the results of all subscales, the overall athlete’s imagery ability score is determined. This questionnaire is designed to measure an athlete’s ability to use mental imagery related to various aspects such as skills, strategies, emotions, and overcoming complex situations. It can be used as a training process assessment tool to evaluate long-term imagery ability development in athletes. The questionnaire consists of 15 items, assessed on a 7-point scale.

      Internal Consistency (Cronbach’s Alpha):
      •Training-oriented imagery ability: 0.73
      •Competition-oriented imagery ability: 0.62
      •Goal-oriented imagery ability: 0.62
      •Affect-oriented imagery ability: 0.68
      •Competence-oriented imagery ability: 0.75
      •Overall imagery ability: 0.87

      Sample characteristics:
In the first stage of adaptation, the sample consisted of 215 athletes (102 females, 113 males) with a mean age of 21.65 years (SD = 3.49). Among them, 111 athletes represented individual sports, and 104 athletes were from team sports. The average sports experience of respondents was 9.4 years (SD = 5.03).
In the second stage of adaptation, the sample consisted of 220 athletes (97 females, 123 males) with a mean age of 21.69 years (SD = 3.58). Of these, 123 athletes represented individual sports, and 97 athletes participated in team sports. The average sports experience in this sample was 9.5 years (SD = 4.9).
