Department of pediatric surgery provides quality undergraduate education and postgraduate research opportunities in pediatric and neonatal surgery. All teaching personnel are practicing specialists with experience in pediatric abdominal, endoscopic, colorectal, thoracic, urologic, neonathal, plastic, orthopedic and trauma surgery fields. Department is based in Children's Clinical University Hospital in Riga which is one of the leading pediatric hospitals in Baltics. This allows to give our students and residents a deep dive in practical management of real patients, participate in different diagnostic and treatment procedures.
Department's current fields of research are: 1) neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis 2) developement of new acute appendicitis differentiation and treatment methods 3) pain management in surgical conditions
4) patient safety
Our department staff participates in numerous european and international pediatric surgeon associations and cooperates with renown specialists from UK, Finland and other countries both in education and practical experience exchange.
