Personal profile

Research interests

I am currently employed as a leading researcher and assistant professor in the Department of Dental Therapy and Oral Health at Riga Stradiņš University. My teaching and academic work is guided by my mission to promote children's oral health in Latvia. I obtained my dental degree in 2007 and my PhD in 2013 from Riga Stradiņš University, Latvia. Since 2007, I have been working as a general dentist and, since 2022, as a paediatric dentist. Concurrently, I am undertaking specialist training and updating my knowledge through various national and international courses with a special focus on public health, cariology and paediatric dentistry. Since 2012, I have been residing in Chile on a part-time basis, where I obtained the right to practise general dentistry (Dental Degree from the University of Chile) and I work as a guest lecturer at the University of Southern Chile, Valdivia, Chile, and periodically at the University of Valparaiso, Valparaiso, Chile. The principal areas of research include paediatric dentistry, cariology, public health and evidence transfer, the development of child-friendly dentistry, the study of minimally invasive treatment methods for early childhood caries and their implementation in a sustainable healthcare system. I am an editor for the BMC Oral Health and Dental Traumatology journals. In addition to my involvement in these professional societies, I am an active member of the European Organization for Research on Caries (ORCA), the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD), the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), and the European Association for Dental Public Health (EADPH). In 2023, I had the privilege of serving as Co-President of the EADPH, and since 2024, I have been a co-chair of the Special Interest Group of the EADPH.
