Project Details
Description
Despite the growing recognition of frailty's significance, there is a lack of studies evaluating frailty and pre-frailty in the elderly population in Latvia. Previous studies are limited to fall-related mortality and associated factors at the population level in Latvia, and regular screening for frailty or fall risk factors is not incorporated into routine primary care. This study leverages data obtained from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) encompassing waves 7 (2017), 8 (2020), and 9 (2022). Integration of distinct modules addressing demographics, physical health, cognitive function, employment, pensions, household income, consumption, and activities will be conducted for a comprehensive analysis to assess pre-frailty and frailty among the population aged 50 and above of Latvia. In collaboration with the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, an inquiry for register-based data will be initiated, interlinking individual-level information from two crucial registers: the Latvian Register of Causes of Death and the Register of Patients with Specific Diseases. This analysis aims to evaluate fall-related mortality and associated factors within the ageing population. The final report and recommendations aim to provide evidence-based information for the formulation of policies, guide the development of evidence-based fall prevention programs, and offer insights to enhance initiatives for reducing falls and improving well-being in older individuals.
