Development and Effectiveness Evaluation of a Mixed Reality Intervention for Enhancing Selective and Sustained Attention in Adolescent Basketball Players

Project Details

Description

This doctoral research focuses on the development and evaluation of a mixed reality (MR) intervention designed to enhance selective and sustained attention in adolescent basketball players. The intervention integrates cognitively demanding attention tasks with basketball-specific stimuli and decision-making scenarios within an interactive mixed reality environment.

An integrated eye-tracking system is used as a gaze-based interaction tool within the intervention. Participants perform attention tasks by directing and maintaining their gaze on specific visual targets, while selectively attending to relevant stimuli and ignoring distracting information. Successful gaze-based interaction enables task completion and progression through successive levels, providing a progressively challenging environment for training attentional control.

The effectiveness of the intervention will be evaluated using standardized psychological measures of attention and cognitive performance. The research aims to determine whether MR-based, gaze-controlled cognitive training can enhance selective and sustained attention in adolescent basketball players and to explore its potential as an innovative and ecologically relevant approach to cognitive training in youth sport.

Layman's description

This doctoral research explores how mixed reality technology can be used to improve attention skills in adolescent basketball players. A specially designed mixed reality training programme will combine basketball-related activities with tasks that train players to focus on relevant information and maintain their attention over time. The study will examine whether this type of training can help young basketball players improve their attention skills and potentially support their performance in sport.
