Project Details
Description
To advance our understanding and enhance patient-centred care in oncology settings in Latvia, we will conduct a mixed-method pilot study with dual objectives: (1) to assess patients' perceptions of their well-being following breast cancer surgical treatments using patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and (2) to evaluate the feasibility of integrating PROMs into surgical oncology care in Latvia. The project will be implemented through 3 complementary work packages (WP): WP1 – Validation and cultural adoption of PRO instruments for breast cancer patients; WP2 – Assessment of PROMs in breast cancer patient population; WP3 – Feasibility assessment of PROM use in a breast unit. The research will be conducted at the Department of Surgery, Breast Unit, Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital (PSCUH). PSCUH is the leading multi-profile state hospital in Latvia and includes one of the two national cancer treatment centres. EORTC-QLQ-C30, EORTC- QLQ-BR23 and the BREAST-Q postoperative modules will be used for PRO collection. The project's scientific outcomes will: (1) advance understanding of PROMs in breast surgery patient care and perspectives of patients and providers; (2) support evidence-based recommendations for sustainable healthcare delivery; and (3) promote sustainability and capacity building within the project team.
