Description
EN_ The aim of the study “Working Conditions and Risks in Latvia, 2012–2013” was to conduct a dynamic analysis of the development of the occupational health and safety system, evaluating the implementation of the proposals provided in similar studies in 2005–2007 and 2009–2010. This study provides additional analytical data in the field of occupational health, occupational safety and labour relations, which can serve as a basis for rational and effective decision-making for the creation of employment and social policy programs and ensuring sustainable development, as well as for improving the occupational health and safety situation in various target groups (for example, young people, micro-enterprises, etc.). During the study, surveys of employers, employees and Latvian residents, focus group discussions of occupational health and safety specialists, analysis of available occupational health and safety databases, as well as analysis of the objective situation (laboratory measurements performed), which provides an opportunity to base the development of occupational health and safety policy programs on the results of the study. The results of the study indicate an improvement in the situation in certain areas, however, insufficient compliance with the regulatory enactments regulating labor protection and labor relations, as well as insufficient public awareness and understanding of the requirements of the regulatory enactments, are still relevant in the workplace. In the future, special attention should be paid to alternative methods of information and education, as well as to regular and periodic acquisition of national indicators in order to be able to evaluate the measures taken in the field of labor protection and labor legal aspects.
