Dissolution-permeation approach for biopharmaceutical evaluation: a feasibility study using naproxen

Abstract

Currently, dissolution-permeation testing is mostly applied to poorly soluble
drugs. Few systems are commercially available, each with its own advantages and limitations. To overcome the limitations of existing dissolution-permeation testing systems, we proposed integrating a Ussing (permeability) chamber into the compendial USP II dissolution apparatus. A prototype system using a PAMPA membrane was assembled and tested with the BCS class II drug naproxen. The permeability values obtained were comparable to those reported in the literature.
