    Abstract

Introduction. The number of psychoactive substance users continues to grow, but the age of the users decreases [SVA, 2008; World Drug Report, 2009]. Typically, psychoactive substance abuse begins during adolescence [CASA Columbia, 2011; SVA, 2008]. Drama therapy (hereinafter – DT) is effective on adolescents to promote behaviour management skills and to achieve health behaviour [Seddik, 2008; Feldman, Jones, Ward, 2009; Dokter, 2011; Western Connecticut Health Network, 2011], to reduce anxiety [Langley, 2006; Schaefer, 1988; Dokter, 2011] and to create and strengthen [Langley, 2006; Zeal, 2011; Dokter, 2011] motivation to not use psychoactive substances (hereinafter – PAS).
No studies on the effectiveness of DT during the rehabilitation process of anxious adolescents addictedto PAS have been carried out so far.
Aim. The aim of the respective study is to evaluate whether DT is suitable for use during
the rehabilitation process of anxious adolescents addicted to PAS to achieve health behaviour.
Material and methods. Five 15−17-year-old anxious adolescents − PAS users participated
in 10 DT sessions during their rehabilitation process. Qualitative and quantitative methods of gathering
data were used in the study: expert evaluation, evaluation essays by the participants of the study, art-based evaluation, documentation of the rehabilitation process and an anxiety survey (STAI-Y, Spielberger, et al., 1970) [Spielberger, Sarason, 1975]. Descriptive statistic, qualitative content analysis and O-D-I cycle (O-D-I cycle, Ansdell, Pavlicevic, 2001) [Ansdell, Pavlicevic, 2001] methods were used to process and analyze the data collected during this study. This research is a part of a more extensive study [Hartmane, 2011].
Results. The participants of the study show decreased acting-out behaviour, an increased motivation not to use PAS, decreased substance abuse cases, a decreased sense of anxiety and insecurity, an increased degree of emotional awareness.
Conclusions. DT is suitable for use during the rehabilitation process of anxious adolescents
addicted to PAS to achieve health behaviour.
