Abstract

The issues of residential lease rights are significant for both tenants and landlords, and regulation is necessary to ensure fair and effective management of legal relations. The Residential Tenancy Law (RTL) was adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia on March 17, 2021, and came into force on May 1, 2021. With the enactment of the RTL, the Law "On Residential Tenancy" from February 16, 1993, which had regulated the legal relations of residential tenancy in Latvia since April 1, 1993, lost its legal force. The monograph "Residential Tenancy Rights: From Theory to Practice" offers an in-depth and comprehensive overview of the aspects of residential lease rights, covering the scope of application of the law, security deposits, and dispute resolution procedures.
The monograph is based on three of the author's articles on residential lease rights:
1) Security Deposit in Residential Tenancy. Jurista Vārds, 03.10.2023, No. 40 (1306), pp. 12–21;
2) Scope of the Residential Tenancy Law and Application of the Civil Law. Jurista Vārds, 20.02.2024, No. 8 (1326), pp. 25–34;
3) Dispute Resolution and Its Procedures in Residential Tenancy – first publication in this book.
Thus, the book is structured into three parts, providing the reader with a sequential understanding of the essence and specifics of residential tenancy law.
