Abstract

Football coaches are professionals who require critical skills and awareness of the worldviews that guide their practice. Starting from an epistemological point of view, the pilot study identified five philosophical paradigms in the tradition of Western sport philosophy. On the basis of these paradigms, a questionnaire (QPP) was built, validated, and administered to a selected sample of 20 subjects representing coaches training at Lodigiani Football Club of Rome and to a group of 25 students from the University of Rome "Foro Italico" who were also coaches.

The aim of the questionnaire was to detect the preferences of each football coach in relation to the five philosophical paradigms identified (pragmatist, idealist, positivist, existentialist, socio-critical) in order to define their philosophical and pedagogical profile. The data obtained were statistically processed and compared. The results showed that the philosophical profile of youth football coaches depends on variables given by age and context of training.
