Abstract
Master's thesis, in accordance with the strategy of qualitative research, has been done as a biographical research, which is a type of narrative research. The aim of the research was to study the life experience of politically repressed people with the method of art therapy “Life Line”. Research task: to study how the life experiences of politically repressed persons are depicted in art and described in the life story, using the method of art therapy “Life Line”. Research question: how is the life experience of politically repressed people depicted in art and described in a life story using the “Life Line” method of art therapy? In the course of the research, seven politically repressed people between the ages of 74 and 84 were interviewed and, thus, seven life experience stories were obtained. The “Life Line” method of art therapy consists of two parts - the drawing and reflection part of the “Life Line”, which includes a life story and a reflection on what was experienced during the interview. With the consent of the participants, an audio recording of the verbal part was made. The included visual data in the works of art were analyzed and narrative analysis for the reflection part were performed. The study revealed how politically repressed people portray their experiences in art and in life stories. The analysis of the participants' works of art and narratives reveals an experience that is unique, beginning with the historical events of childhood, an experience of a long, rich life. Through lifelong review, participants formulated valuable lessons learned. Latvia has not previously studied the life experience of politically repressed people using the art therapy method “ Life Line”, in this context no testimonies and life stories of the experience have been recorded.
