Abstract
he satisfaction of a nurse at work is an important concept in the nursing profession, often influenced by the quality of professional life. In view of the lack of nurses in Latvia and the high pressure on hospitals, as well as trying to provide quality services in health care, the sister puts herself in a crowd that potentially leads to sympathy fatigue, as a consequence of burning out at the professional workplace and leaving the profession. The fatigue and burning of compassion affect the health of her sister, as well as the satisfaction of patients with the care and safety provided, so it is very important to maintain a balance between the satisfaction of compassion, overcrowding and the fatigue of compassion, often affected by job satisfaction. The aim of the study is to find out the quality of professional life of nurses in secondary healthcare institutions in Kurzeme in relation to job satisfaction. A hypothesis suggests that the quality of professional life of nursing nurses is statistically relevant to job satisfaction, taking into account socio-demographic indicators. A non-experimental, cross-sectional (correlation) study has been applied to achieve the purpose of the study and to demonstrate the hypothesis. Instruments applied: A quality of professional life scale – version 5, Paul Spector test and questionnaire developed by the author. The study was attended by 186 nurses in the Kurzeme region who worked in medical facilities for at least 1 years. The results of the study focus on a statistically significant relationship between the quality of professional life of practitioners and job satisfaction. A statistically significant positive commitment is made to a scale of sympathy satisfaction with the direct leader, recognition for good work, work colleagues, work content and communications within the organisation. On the other hand, statistically significant negative commitments exist for the sub-scale with pay, direct manager, recognition for good work, work colleagues, work content and communication within the organisation, as well as statistically significant negative links to the sub-scale of traumatic stress with the direct driver, monetary and non-monetary benefits, work colleagues and work content. Secondary results indicate the reason for the professional variability of nurses and leaving the nursing profession, as well as the results of positive and pleasant feelings that motivate nurses to continue their work in medicine. Key words: nurse, job satisfaction, quality of professional life, compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue.
