Abstract
The discussion section in a scientific manuscript serves the critical function of positioning the research results within a broader context, while offering analyses and interpretations of the findings. In this section, the authors utilize their analytical skills to link the results obtained with the existing literature and to contribute new knowledge. In addition to describing the significance of the findings, the discussion section aims to establish relationships and explanations based on prior knowledge and the research questions posed. The discussion can also generate new questions and direct future research in the ongoing process of scientific knowledge advancement. It is essential that the discussion section remains balanced, presenting both confirmatory data and unexpected results while avoiding speculation or unsubstantiated statements. This section serves as a platform for demonstrating the researcher’s critical thinking abilities and proposing innovative solutions based on the findings, thereby contributing to the overall progression of knowledge. This chapter is about the purpose, function, and importance of the discussion section of a manuscript. It outlines the contents and provides a roadmap for developing its organization, content, and structure. Some manuscripts may have a separate discussion section from the conclusions. The final part of this chapter addresses the conclusion section.
