Abstract

Objective: This scoping review will map and describe current practices and recommendations for integrating generative AI into dental education.Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI), including large-language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, is becoming increasingly important in dental education, enhancing personalised learning and clinical reasoning. However, privacy, biased content and plagiarism need to be addressed. As the role of AI ineducation expands, specific guidelines for dental education are needed.Inclusion criteria: We will include official guidelines from higher education institutions focusing on generative AI in dental education, aimed at academic staff or students and published in English, Portuguese, or Spanish since November 2022, the release date of the first public LLMs.Methods: We will search general engines (e.g. Google), academic contacts, social media, and top-ranking websites of dental schools. The strategy includes relevant terms in the three languages. Title, abstract, and full-text reviews will determine the source's relevance. Data extraction will include guideline details and content. No quality assessment will be performed. Data synthesis will include descriptive analysis and thematic categorisation.
