Abstract

As the interests and scientific potential of both countries develop, new scientific fields, including space law, are also developing thanks to aspects of international cooperation. The modern space industry is an interdisciplinary field, bringing together the best ideas from a wide range of fields, from electronics, programming, telecommunications and material sciences to medicine, chemistry and food processing. It’s not just space missions, but also communication systems, climate change research and environmental protection. By developing this sector at the national level, both Latvia and Ukraine can contribute to the development of the sector, promoting Europe’s capacity in space exploration, supporting science, while also contributing to the competitiveness of the industry, generating innovation, thus improving, for example, Europe’s technological independence and promoting the application of technology beyond the space domain. Despite the limited experience of both countries in the space industry, its interdisciplinary nature also provides an opportunity to make country-specific contributions, showcasing their technological breakthroughs and developing a national space programme.
