Sustainability in urban space management: An attempt to create an algorithm for resilient green areas management

Abstract

Faced with climate, economic, and post-pandemic crisis, informal green spaces (IGS) are valued for providing a sustainable city environment. This study shows how IGS in Warsaw are perceived and used. We looked at chosen areas to determine their recreational use, as expressed by territoriality markers and traces of use inventory. Additionally, we conducted in-depth interviews to find out what users value most and how they envision IGS development. Based on the data collected, identifying environmental legal protection and calculating the intensity of use area index led to the algorithm for resilient green areas management and development in the form of four scenarios.
