Abstract

The following article focuses on the effect of sanctions against the background of the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the largest war on the European continent since the World War II. On February 24, 2022, the Russian army invaded Ukraine and opened a front line on a wide perimeter. In response to Russia’s aggression, a number of sanctions were imposed by the international community and individual countries, the purpose of which is to inflict an economic price on the aggressor and stop the war. The main steps taken by Western countries to deter Russian aggression are related to the supply of defense weapons to Ukraine and economic sanctions against Russia. Therefore, the analysis of economic implications is relevant in order to comprehend the scope of the sanctions and the magnitude of their impact on the Russian economy.
