Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterResearchpeer-review

Abstract

Sports medicine is a multidisciplinary field of medicine. A sports physician is a highly qualified, certified medical specialist who is knowledgeable about the effects of physical activity and sports on an individual’s health status, medical history, and exercise tolerance. Sports physicians’ are responsible for the health care and medical supervision of individual athletes, para athletes, and teams including injury and illness prevention, preparticipation health and fitness evaluation, and the diagnosis, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to sports of diseases and injuries related to physical activity and sports. Each sport federation and team should develop a plan for medical care services, but small country federations and teams may require a contract with responsible sports physicians because the athletes’ and para athletes’ health should always be the main priority.
